Freedom’s Wings Canada provides people with disabilities the opportunity to fly. Our program strives to improve the quality of life of persons with disabilities by providing a physically and intellectually exciting and challenging introduction to flight.

The purpose of Freedom’s Wings Canada is to bring the world of soaring to disabled persons by:

  • Exposing persons with disabilities to the soaring experience
  • Teaching qualified persons with disabilities to soar
  • Providing facilities for soaring to those persons with disabilities able to soar
  • Providing training for instructors, ground crew, and flying students
  • Providing a non-profit educational and fraternal organization
  • Serving as a resource and model for other organizations with similar intent

Inspiration Flights

With the assistance of trained volunteers, the passenger will be given a ground briefing, and then fitted into the front cockpit a biplace trainer fitted (some fitted with adaptive hand controls.) A tow plane with a 200? line will launch the glider, and then the passenger will be offered an opportunity to try the controls (where they are able), and will experience the euphoric sense of freedom that the three dimensional world of the air delivers.

Learn To Fly

Some Freedom’s Wings Canada chapters offer paraplegics and high functioning quadriplegics into it’s “Learn To Soar” program.

A ‘rudder stick’ duplicates the control inputs of the rudder pedals. For those with sufficient strength and coordination in the arms, and the ability to grasp, flight lessons from volunteer instructors will be available. It will take around 55 dual flights to qualify for solo flight. In addition to 20 solo flights, students will require ground school study, an examination from Transport Canada, and a medical assessment from a Civil Aviation Medical Examiner.

When you pass you will be a licensed glider pilot!
